Mary Ann Catherine Signoretti Tyree

Jan. 20, 1934 ~ May 7, 2016

Mary Ann Catherine Signoretti Tyree was born January 20, 1934 in Bluefield, West Virginia and died peacefully on May 7, 2016 in Anchorage, Alaska.

She raised her young family in Orlando, Florida with husband JC Tyree.  Life took a new path after their divorce and she came to Nome, Alaska with encouragement of her cousin Wiley Scott.  She first worked at the Nugget Inn and then became part owner/operator of Trappers Cabin Gift Shop.  She was one of the founding members of the Nome Lioness Club and enjoyed the many activities and community support the club produced.  As life again took another path, she found herself as a Head Start Teacher for Kawerak and then an Alcohol/Drug Counselor for Norton Sound. She had fond memories of her time at the Alano Club playing cards and coordinating dances enjoying non-alcoholic activities. She was proud of all who participated in creating new beginnings together.

She loved to dance and sing, she made frequent appearances with The Tyree Brothers Band when they would play at various venues around Nome.  Her favorite songs “House of the Rising Sun” and “The Nome Blues.”

She lived a long life, had a smile and laugh that lit up a room.  She is surely missed but never forgotten.  We are thinking of her this Mother’s Day and would like to share this memorial for her.  We will spread her ashes with Mark so they can look at the mountains together and sing a few songs.

She is preceded in death by her son Mark Tyree; Parents Dominick and Beulah Signoretti; and Sisters Carolyn Carberry and Vida Bachand.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jim and Teresa Tyree; daughter Ina Tyree Emmett and daughter-in-dLaw Cris Tyree.

She was blessed with loving grandchildren Tiffany Tyree Trigg, Reva Natasha Tyree, Tia Tyree, Jason Emmett, Bambi Tyree, Joshua Emmett, Krystal Emmett Stewart, Tony Tyree, Rachel Tyree, Aaron Rule, and Christopher Cleveland.  She also has 20 great-grand children who were her joy in her later years.
