Ruth Ina ‘Avvubuziak’ Koweluk
Ruth Ina ‘Avvubuziak’ Koweluk, 83, passed away at her home in Anchorage, Alaska on January 28, 2016. Ruth was born in Wales, Alaska on February 2, 1932.
She worked as a cook at Nome-Beltz High School and a restaurant while living in Nome. Eventually, Ruth pursued nursing. When she moved to Anchorage she was a nurse for the Public Health Service until retirement. She was affiliated with First United Methodist Church in Anchorage and her special interests included sewing, knitting, arts and crafts, spending winters in Hawaii, camping, fishing and berry picking.
Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed. A public visitation was held at First United Methodist Church with a funeral service following. Pastor Steve Lambert officiated. Ruth will be laid to rest at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in spring next to her late husband Ted.
Survivors include her daughter Hazel Nyberg of Astoria, Oregon; sons Bob Koweluk of Dillingham, Alaska; Mike, John, and Harvey Koweluk of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters Betty Oxereok of Wales, Alaska and Donna Arentz of Portland, Oregon; brother Harris Amadelootuk of Anchorage, Alaska; sister-in-law Esther Bourdon of Nome, Alaska, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Francis Amadelootuk, husband Teddy Koweluk and daughters Kay Orfitelli and Louise Peck.
Her funeral was arranged with Janssen’s Evergreen Memorial.
