It's sign up time

If you are not a careful news reader or if the daily grind of life keeps you from paying close attention to the fine print of rules, the fact that the enrollment period for the 2018 Health Insurance Marketplace has begun, may have escaped you.
And it’s not your fault.
The Trump administration is doing its best to sabotage Obamacare as it was intended, has cut outreach dollars by 90 percent to (not) alert people that sign up is happening, and has even cut the enrollment period from twelve weeks to 45 days.
Enrollment began November 1 and will end December 15. And, don’t forget, the website where you can sign up at HealthCare.gov will be shut down for 12 hours on five of the six enrollment Sundays, right smack during a convenient time for working families to sit down and tackle signing up for health care plans. So not only did the Trump administration pull resources to cover subsidies for insurers, it left states hanging in uncertainty about Medicaid expansion, left insurers guessing what will happen next and the losers? That would be us, trying to find an affordable, predictable health care future. —D.H.—
